Life in the Wappinger Creek: A Watershed Exploration

Co-hosted by the Town of Stanford Conservation Advisory Commission and the Stanford Free Library
Are you an explorer at heart?
Are you willing to get into the riffles?
Come join us as we explore the wild inhabitants of the Wappinger Creek as it flows through our town. Learn what macro invertebrates are and how they are important indicators of water and environmental quality. Sampling equipment will be provided for participants who would like to enter the stream knee-deep to collect stream organisms.
Date/Time: June 20, 2026, 10 AM (Rain date: June 27)
Location: A Town of Stanford park TBD, based on stream conditions

Bring/Wear: Cap with visor, close-toed shoes or boots that can get wet, small towel/bandana, water in a reusable bottle, extra pair of dry socks/shoes (optional), and an adventurous spirit.
Registration required: Please register via the online calendar at stanfordlibrary.org.

Note:
• HERBAL insect repellent will be provided to apply to hats only.
• Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
• In the event of inclement weather, please look for an email from the library or check the Stanford CAC Instagram account (@townofstanfordcac) for last minute information.

Be prepared to have some fun learning about life in the creek
and get at least a little wet!

Whitlock Preserve Guided Walk

Town of Stanford Conservation Advisory Commission and the Stanford Free Library are teaming up to bring you a guided walk through the Whitlock Preserve on Saturday, June 13th at 9:00am. We will be hiking trails, bird watching, and learning about bird nesting behavior. Binoculars are encouraged. Space is limited so registration is required. Watercolor Workshop

Watercolor Workshop - Using the basic watercolor techniques: a flat wash, graded wash, wet-on-wet, or dry brush. We will be happy to provide guidance but this is a Watercolor Workshop not a Watercolor Class. Starting September 16th 2025 this workshop meets on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Tuesday of each month from 1 pm - 4 pm at the Stanford Free Library.
