Life in the Wappinger Creek: A Watershed Exploration

Co-hosted by the Town of Stanford Conservation Advisory Commission and the Stanford Free Library Are you an explorer at heart? Are you willing to get into the riffles? Come join us as we explore the wild inhabitants of the Wappinger Creek as it flows through our town. Learn what macro invertebrates are and how they are important indicators of water and environmental quality. Sampling equipment will be provided for participants who would like to enter the stream knee-deep to collect stream organisms. Date/Time: June 20, 2026, 10 AM (Rain date: June 27) Location: A Town of Stanford park TBD, based on stream conditions Bring/Wear: Cap with visor, close-toed shoes or boots that can get wet, small towel/bandana, water in a reusable bottle, extra pair of dry socks/shoes (optional), and an adventurous spirit. Registration required: Please register via the online calendar at stanfordlibrary.org. Note: • HERBAL insect repellent will be provided to apply to hats only. • Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. • In the event of inclement weather, please look for an email from the library or check the Stanford CAC Instagram account (@townofstanfordcac) for last minute information. Be prepared to have some fun learning about life in the creek and get at least a little wet!
