Two Documentaries – Anniversary Presentations

Stanford resident, Gregg Smith, will make a 25th anniversary presentation of an hour-long documentary that he produced which aired on public TV nationwide in 2001.  A Bridge to Cuba shows U.S. yachtsmen sailing to Cuba three times, making friends with common people while their governments still fought the Cold War.  The husband of one woman they befriended escaped Cuba on a raft; the documentary focuses on the Americans trying to reunite the wife and her young son with her husband.  Viewers will also witness the Americans rescuing Cuban refugees at sea.   Friday, March 6th at 6:00pm

Stanford resident, Gregg Smith, will make a 20th anniversary presentation of an hour-long documentary that he produced which aired on public TV nationwide in 2006.  Heritage or Hate? looks at the controversy over using the Confederate flag on public property.  The documentary presents both sides of the issue, from those who say it promotes racism and hate, to the perspectives of the Sons of Confederate Veterans who say the flag has been misrepresented by hate groups.  The film explores the classic clash between freedom of speech and those who are offended by that speech.     Friday, March 13th at 6:00pm
