If you send or receive gift cards, be sure to check the tips at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC): Tips for Holiday Gift Card Shopping: https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/blog/2019/12/tips-holiday-gift-card-shopping

Buying, Selling, and Swapping Gift Cards

If you have gift cards that you can’t use, then perhaps you might want to sell or swap your cards. This article from PC Magazine: https://www.pcmag.com/how-to/how-to-buy-sell-and-swap-gift-cards

Contains details about using these web sites to buy, sell, and swap gift cards:

  • CardCash https ://www.cardcash.com/
  • CardPool https://www.cardpool.com/
  • Raise https://www.raise.com/

Gift Cards and Scammers

Scammers are phoning people to purchase gift cards for such purposes as paying debts, keeping benefits and utilities, paying for bail, avoiding deportation, etc. Anyone who demands payment by gift card is always a scammer, so hang up and report the scam to the card issuer, the police, and the Federal Trade Commission:

See this FTC article for more details and additional links:
Paying Scammers with Gift Cards https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/paying-scammers-gift-cards

Or use this search for multiple FTC posts about gift cards (including other scams):

For some real-life examples of scams, see this article from AARP: Gift Cards are for Gifts — not Grifters  https://www.aarp.org/money/scams-fraud/info-2019/prevent-gift-card-fraud.html
